I have the third installment of my blog series Women that Inspire Me, and this week I am featuring two women, Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson.
Jessica and Phoebe’s show is my favorite podcast. Not only are these ladies funny AF, but their show features a slew of other comedians that are funny AF.
Not sure how you handle stress or sadness, but one way I deal is to seek out things that make me laugh.
How did I cope on November 9th, 2016? I listened to 2 Dope Queens, and I laughed. Even on that day, they still made me laugh. A lot.
According to their website, the show features “stories about sex, romance, race, hair journeys, living in New York, and Billy Joel. Plus a whole bunch of other s**t.” These two dope queens are also all about featuring women and people of color.
They've had on big names like Jon Stewart, Tig Notaro, Connie Britton, Kevin Bacon, as well as comedians like Michelle Buteau, Illano Glazer, Joe Mande, Aparna Nancherla and Lindy West.
Sure their comedy isn't for everyone. But if you think woke women you love rosè and the occasional fart joke are funny, they you will probably love their podcast.
You might recognize Jessica from her role as a senior correspondent on The Daily Show. When she debuted at age 23, she was the youngest correspondent on the show. She has also appeared on Season 3 of Girls and several movies and television shows.
Jessica also happens to be the star of the 2017 Netflix comedy movie, The Incredible Jessica James. The semi-autobiographical movie is, as described by the Guardian, about "a struggling Brooklyn-based playwright navigating the murky waters of modern romance while waiting impatiently for her big break.”
Phoebe has a solo podcast, Sooo Many White Guys, which I also really enjoy. On this podcast, she interviews “musicians, actors, writers and comedians who are killing it in their fields--AND who aren’t white dudes!”
She also writes and has been published in publications like Glamour, The New York Times and Vanity Fair. And NBD, her book, You Can't Touch My Hair (And Other Things I Still Have to Explain) was a New York Times Bestseller.
Phoebe has appeared on numerous television shows, including the Amazon original show, I Love Dick. If you haven’t watched this show, I highly recommend it. It also stars Kevin Bacon and Kathryn Hahn, and was created by Jill Soloway.
And now these seriously funny women have a series of 4 hour long specials on HBO. I've watched the first two, and the episodes were just as funny and charming as their podcast. If you don't have HBO, you can stream the first special for free here.
So in honor of Jessica and Phoebe's love of rosè, I decided to create a bar cart. Because any self-respecting rosè fans needs a classy place to set their bottle on. But as sometimes happens, I didn't get the bar casrt quite done in time. So I will be adding the bar cart later this week.
In the meantime, I just added this seriously stylish glass decanter, which would hold A LOT of rosè or whiskey or water. Whatever. This vintage decanter will make your drinks look classy AF. So I think Jessica and Phoebe would approve.
